Our Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Programs

Uganda has made significant strides in promoting the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of its citizens. However, despite these efforts, the country still faces numerous challenges in ensuring that young people, particularly adolescents and youth, have access to comprehensive SRHR information, services, and support. According to the 2016 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS), 25% of adolescents aged 15-19 have begun childbearing, and 15% of adolescents aged 15-19 have had sex before the age of 15. Furthermore, the survey revealed that 22% of women aged 20-24 reported having their first child before the age of 18. These statistics highlight the urgent need for comprehensive SRHR education, services, and support for young people in Uganda. As an organization working with young people, we recognize the importance of empowering adolescents and youth with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their SRHR.

We conduct three main programs targeting promotion of SRHR among young people in our geographical Areas of Operation

School-based programs: We work with schools to provide comprehensive SRHR Education to Adolescents. Our programs focus on topics such as body autonomy, safety, and honest conversations around early sex and unprotected sex.

Center-based programs: We partner with Healthcare Centers to provide adolescents with access to SRHR services, including Family Planning information, STI testing and treatment, and HIV testing and counseling.

Community engagement programs: We engage with community leaders, parents, and young people to promote SRHR awareness and education. Our community-based programs focus on topics such as Child Marriage, Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management, HIV/AIDS, UTIs, and STDs.

Our programs are designed to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their SRHR. We believe that by providing comprehensive SRHR education, services, and support, we can help reduce the prevalence of Child Marriage, HIV/AIDS, STIs, and STDs among young people in Uganda.

Family planning is a critical component of SRHR. According to the 2016 UDHS, only 26% of married women aged 15-49 use a modern method of family planning. This highlights the need for increased access to family planning services and education.

We provide Family Planning Education and Services to Adolescents and Youth. We believe that by empowering young people with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their Reproductive Health, we can help reduce the prevalence of unintended pregnancies, Child Marriage, and HIV/AIDS.
